It is advisable to obtain clearance from a physiotherapist or physician to confirm that you are permitted to use a MOTOmed movement trainer. Certain contraindications — such as acute heart problems, thrombosis, or recent joint prosthetics — must be clarified before you begin training. Please do not confuse this device with a conventional ergometer! A movement trainer is electrically powered and can passively move even fully paralysed or cognitively impaired individuals.

We offer devices from two different manufacturers of movement therapy equipment. The MOTOmed by RECK is available in the modern “loop” version as well as the predecessor model “viva2”. You can also choose between different software variants and configurations from this manufacturer. In addition to a basic device, a device with training programmes, and a trainer for Parkinson's patients, RECK also offers children's devices, bed devices, and a simultaneous trainer. The THERA-Trainer devices from medica differ primarily in the size of the integrated displays and are available as both leg trainers and combined arm-and-leg trainers. This manufacturer also offers a portable compact device that can be used for both arms and legs. We are happy to answer any questions about the detailed features and differences in person.

Choose between a pure leg trainer or a combined arm-and-leg trainer. After a knee operation, for example, it makes sense to use only a leg trainer. For patients suffering from a neurological condition, we recommend the combination device with arm-and-leg function. Your physio- or occupational therapist can advise you on this.

There are accessories that make it easier to operate the device, for example when muscle strength is reduced. For patients who cannot close their fingers and therefore cannot grip the handles of the movement trainer, there are cuffs for fixing the hands to the handles. There are also self-adjustable foot supports and/or leg guides with calf shells that enable guided and safer movement when leg muscles are weak or paralysed.

Choose from 1-, 3-, 6-, 12-, and 24-month terms depending on your needs. After neurological impairments, when you want to use a movement trainer in addition to your regular therapies to support motor function and mobility, we recommend a term of at least 12 months. However, if you have “only” had knee surgery and want to gently mobilise your joint at home, a term of 3 months may already be sufficient. In any case, you can test the device at home for 1 week beforehand. If, during a rental with us, your health insurance unexpectedly approves a movement trainer for you, the self-pay rental agreement ends after a minimum term of 3 months.

You can extend all medical aid contracts quickly and easily within the notice period. If you request an extension at the same contract duration, the rental rate is reduced by a discount. It is also possible to choose a shorter or longer term. Please always submit this request in writing to info@thera-rent.de.

Our field service operates nationwide delivery tours almost every week, covering the entire country. Whether Lübeck, Berlin, or Munich – you rarely wait more than 10 days for your ordered medical aid. We assemble the device for you and of course provide a professional hands-on instruction in its operation. If you have already received hands-on instruction for an identical device and local conditions permit, there is also the option of expedited delivery via a freight partner.

In addition to nationwide delivery, you also have the option of picking up the device directly from our premises in Dortmund free of charge. In our Dortmund showroom you can try out the various models.

Your medical aid is insured for the entire rental period. The insurance contribution is already included in the rental rate. In the event of technical or electrotechnical problems or failures, our service team will provide a free repair or a free replacement device. The insurance does not cover damage to the device caused by the user (e.g. cracked display housing, damage caused by the movement trainer tipping over, water damage, etc.).

For 1-month rental contracts, a notice period of 2 weeks prior to the end of the rental term applies. For all other terms, the notice period is 4 weeks prior to the end of the rental term. Notice must always be given in writing to info@thera-rent.de or by post, within the deadline, to Fritz-Kahl-Straße 32, 44225 Dortmund. In the event of the user's death, the contract ends at the end of the current month upon presentation of the death certificate.

This varies considerably and is mostly decided on a case-by-case basis. There are significant differences in the application and approval process among different insurers. In general, it already makes a difference whether it is a private or statutory insurer. The underlying diagnosis also plays a major role. With most insurers, reimbursement is only possible if there is a neurological condition. Additional factors such as the current general state of health, walking distance, age, and whether a doctor or therapist has provided a recommendation all play an important part. In most cases, a trial period of several weeks is required before costs are covered. Thera-Rent does not bill statutory health and care insurers. If you have private insurance, there is a possibility of cooperation/cost coverage by the insurer. We currently have supply agreements in cooperation with AXA, DKV, Signal-Iduna, Gothaer, Barmenia, and Hallesche Versicherung.
