The children's model from RECK Medizintechnik is the only motor-driven movement therapy device designed for the specific needs of children. The MOTOmed gracile12 has a foot-shell spacing of just 12 cm, so that even small children or people of short stature can train in a physiological joint position. This helps avoid incorrect loading of the hip or knee joints. The height-adjustable foot shells can be matched to the length of the legs and allow an optimal seating position. The MOTOmed gracile12 grows with the child. The MOTOmed gracile12 has numerous safety features, such as the loosening drive with movement protection, spasm detection and spasm relief. This makes safe, daily movement therapy possible even with physical impairments. The MOTOmed arm/upper-body trainer can be swivelled into and out of the training area. Arm and upper-body training specifically strengthens the arm, upper-body and shoulder muscles and supports the accessory breathing muscles.
All MOTOmed models give the user a wide range of training feedback. Training values such as duration, distance, symmetry, total output, tone, the average and maximum active output as well as the active and passive share of training can be read on the screen both in real time during training and as an overall evaluation afterwards.
Much like a bicycle with an auxiliary motor, the MOTOmed ServoPedalling function supports the user in performing their active movement. The function enables the person training to carry out active movement even with the smallest amount of their own strength. Residual muscle strength can be detected and built up without overtaxing effort.
If a muscle cramp, spasm or movement blockage (freezing) occurs during training, this function stops the pedal movement. It makes no difference how the baseline muscle tension changes: movement protection is not constant but automatically adapts to every change. As a result, it always stays optimally sensitive. This function is implemented in all MOTOmed models through sensitive sensor technology.
The symmetry training function shows its beneficial effect when the goal is to specifically strengthen the weaker side. The way the function is displayed varies depending on the model. On the MOTOmed viva2 models, a two-bar diagram shows the user how much of their applied strength comes from the left or right side of the body. Based on this graphic display, the user can specifically engage their „weaker“ side during training. Symmetry training helps prevent overloading of the healthy limbs.
Users navigate the MOTOmed colour screen (5.7-inch diagonal) intuitively, because the next possible operating step is always shown in „green“. Tactile (slightly raised), large buttons make operation especially easy. The large display of training information ensures good readability.
The entry-aid function makes it easier to place the feet into the foot shells before starting training. Using a button on the control unit, the user can move the foot shells continuously into the right position.
Children who train actively can make the game character MOTOmax hop and collect points. When the legs or arms apply force evenly, MOTOmax makes „jumps for joy“ and rewards the child with a smile.
This function works closely with movement protection and can loosen and release detected spasms or cramps. The following therapeutic principle forms the basis for developing such a function: flexor spasticity is released by stretching and extensor spasticity by flexing. The automatic reversal of the direction of rotation in the spasm-relief programme can release the cramps detected by movement protection. When a cramp occurs, the motor gently stops the crank movement. The legs or arms are relieved and, after a rest phase, the direction of rotation is gently reversed. This process repeats until the cramp is released.
